Zaanse Schans preserves a collection of historic windmills and craft houses along the Zaan river, giving visitors a close look at traditional Dutch building styles and windmill-powered industries.
Several of the windmills at Zaanse Schans are still in operation and open to visitors. The surrounding houses and workshops reflect a building style once common throughout the region. It is one of the most recognizable places to see traditional Dutch windmills up close.
